Descripción del itinerario

First off... no, I don't know why it's called Gill Rattle Creek. Second, if you intend to follow this trail strictly, beware of the tides. The cuts between Blackwater Bay and Buttonwood Bay have oyster beds just below the surface unless it's a very high tide and exposed at low tide. Don't try this trip at low tide. If you do, and you get stuck, remember that there's another high tide in about 6 hours.

We launched at CR92 by the Goodland Bridge and headed east across Goodland Bay through Hell's Gate and turned south into Lighter Bay (which gets shallow at low tide), then eastward again, skirting Blackwater Bay, and turned north into Gill Rattle Creek (before hitting Buttonwood Bay). The Creek was (thank God) a little higher than the last time we did it. We exited the Creek west to the Blackwater River and then headed southwest until we could turn west and follow the green wall of the north shore. That channel can also get very shallow. From the channel, we entered Palm Bay, heading northwest to Hell's Gate. Parts of Palm Bay can also get very shallow in low tide. We took a slight detour along the north side of Hell's Gate just for a diversion and then back to the launch.

Pay attention to where you are at all times at the east end of this paddle. Everything starts to look the same.
