Descripción del itinerario
This was an exploratory hike to reach the water hole of Dara (Baalou3 Dara). The hike started from Majdel Tarsheesh main road (a small sleepy town in Matn District of Mount Lebanon); the trail went up through footpath and dirt road until we reached the Zaarour ski lift drop area. The scenery from that spot was amazing and the clear skies made it more enjoyable where you could gaze at Sunnine mountain, Zaarour, and the surrounding villages. the recent rain brought life to earth and dressed it in a light green color dress. After a short break, we started our descent to the water hole passing by pods, springs, and patches of land wearing the beautiful fall colors until we reached the water hole. The water holes is actually three ones with varying depths; we spent around one hour exploring these structures. We then moved 90 meters away to what looks like a crater or a hole made by some meteorite falling to earth. The structure is surrounded by rock walls as high as 20 vertical meters; we had lunch there. The trail then continued back to the car.
It is a moderate to difficult hike that I do highly recommend.
