Descripción del itinerario

This hike took place on Saturday, March 11th, 2023. The weather was beautiful on that day with clear blue skies, dry northerly wind and hardly a ripple on the water. It went into the less traveled paths around the Batroun/Hamat area.
Our aim was to take a leisurely stroll and try to find areas we hadn't been to before or hadn't been to in a while (like the railway tunnels). Make sure you ware think clothing and some form of eye protection as you will often find yourself in very thick, stiff, and thorny foliage. Expect to get a few cuts and scrapes. Also expect short but steep up or downhill climbs.
Starting from the Batroun parking lot south of the mosque, go north through the old city, the port, the long pebble beach, the industrial wasteland (I've labeled the way-points). Once past that, find your way to the old salt marshes.

The main tunnel continues for about another 300m and emerges closer to the sea level a little before El-Herri. The side tunnel is 90 degrees to the main tunnel and exits on the cliff face overlooking the water.

Start of the climb to Deir El-Nourieh. It is steep, with very tenacious foliage. Expect a few scrapes and cuts but most of all protect your eyes and face.

Careful! Snakes and hidden animals

I heard something moving under the brush, not sure what it was. Watch where you step, make a lot of noise, throw stones at it, beat the bush with a stick. Chances are that whatever it is, it will be more scared of you than the other way around.

I suspect we were trespassing on private property, but this was unintentional as god is my witness. I hear god has a lot of presence in that area.
