This hike in the amazing Gowland Tod Park follows the McKenzie Bight & Cascade trails.
Along the arbutus lined lower section of McKenzie Bight trail there are great views across Saanich Inlet. The upper McKenzie section & the Cascade trail are in the shade of the forest.
Cascade trail ascends steeply, with stairs to assist you, up the Pease Crk. valley. You descend back down the much gentler McKenzie Bight trail along the valley of another creek. Both creeks were quiet on this dry fall day. We were told they put on a lively show in the wet season.
We took a short walk over tp the picnic area at picturesque Durance Lake which involved a bit of road walking. If you want to avoid this watch for the signage after waypoint #25 for the descending trail on your left.
The Retreads Hiking Club gives this hike an AVA rating of 3 A.
