Descripción del itinerario
This is a linear tour from Mytholmroyd to Blackshaw, near Hebden Bridge.
From the bus stop in the centre of the town there is about ten minutes’ road walking along Cragg Road, before you can leave the streets behind. Initially, the way here is upwards along a concreted lane, which then becomes an unmade road and finally ends as a trod through the woods of Broadshaw Clough.
For me it was a forty five minutes’ climb until I reached Erringden Moor and the magnificent views over the landscape. At first, there was no problem with the path across the moor, but I encountered a very boggy stretch that took a few false steps before I could cross it. Eventually, I descended to Jump Lane, which was flat and that became Jump Lane.
I had hoped to visit the Cuckoo Stone, but it was off my route and also up a steep embankment.
I did not see the Buckley Stone, but must have passed it.
I turned right off Kilnshaw Lane at Kilnshaw Farm, although the path here is not marked.
When I reached Edge End Moor I turned right and made my way into Callis Wood, which I thought were reasonably attractive and followed paths leading downwards to the canal, which I was able to cross to reach the Halifax Road. Here there were roadworks by the bus stop so I turned right and carried on in the direction of Hebden Bridge to reach a working bus stop.
This tour is a great work-out with the reward of superb views over the hills to see as far as Heptonstall Church.
